Ground search is slow, and terrain does not cooperate.
Searching scrub, gullies, paddocks or coastline on foot is exhausting and covers very little ground per hour. Thermal imaging from the air covers a large area quickly and picks up heat signatures that are invisible from the ground, particularly at night or in dense cover.
This is support, not substitution. Where a search is being run by police or emergency services, they lead and we assist at their direction. Where it is a landholder looking for stock, a council checking a reserve, or a site searching its own property, we can help directly.

How it works in practice.

- Live observation the pilot reports what they see as they see it, so a find can be acted on immediately.
- Coverage record a map of exactly what was searched, so effort is not duplicated.
- Georeferenced findings anything located is pinned to real world coordinates so a ground team can go straight there.
- Coordination with whoever is leading we work to the search coordinator, not around them.

Emergency services lead search and rescue in Australia. Contact them before you contact us. We support their operation, we do not replace it.
We will not fly into restricted airspace
Airspace over an active emergency is frequently closed to drones, for good reason. If a restriction is in place we will not fly, whatever the circumstances.
Thermal is not magic
It detects heat difference. Dense canopy, heavy rain, hot ground after a fire, or a subject sheltered under cover can all reduce or defeat detection. It improves the odds, it does not guarantee a find.
Coverage takes time
Systematic search of large or difficult terrain takes hours, sometimes across multiple days. We will be realistic with you about what can be covered and how quickly.

Should I call you or emergency services?
Emergency services, always, and first. If a person is missing or a life is at risk, call 000. Police lead search and rescue in Australia. Aerologix provides aerial support at the direction of whoever is coordinating the search, and can assist landholders, councils and sites directly for non life threatening searches such as locating livestock.
How much does aerial search support cost?
A defined single search area with thermal and visual capture starts from $650, with extended areas from around $15 per hectare. Multi day searches and standing arrangements are quoted. If your situation is urgent, call 1800 570 518 and we will sort the commercial side out afterwards.
Does thermal imaging work at night?
Yes, and night is often when it works best, because the temperature difference between a warm body and cool ground is greatest. Dense canopy, heavy rain and ground that is still hot after a fire all reduce effectiveness.
How much ground can a drone cover?
Far more than a ground team per hour, though it depends on terrain, altitude and what is being searched for. We will give you a realistic estimate of coverage and time when you contact us rather than an optimistic one.
Can you work alongside police or SES?
Yes. Where an agency is running the search, they lead and we assist at their direction, including coordinating airspace. We will not self deploy into an active operation.
